AAOS 2017: What we're looking forward to

As the largest exhibition of orthopaedic products in the world, spanning over 500,000 gross square feet of exhibit space, AAOS can be quite overwhelming for both attendees and exhibitors.

With so much to see in such a small period of time, we’ve narrowed down some of the things we’re most excited about ahead of the event in San Diego.

Big announcements

Attended by over 30,000 orthopaedic surgeons, medical specialists, health professionals and representatives, the AAOS annual meeting is the perfect time to launch new products.

Orthobiologics company, Bioventus, introduced several new products at last year's meeting.

GELSYN-3, a three-injection, hyaluronic acid-based product for pain relief from knee osteoarthritis, CellXtract, a novel cell and bone marrow extraction tool and SIGNAFUSE Bioactive Bonegraft Putty were all showcased for the first time at AAOS 2016.

The company have been teasing some big news in the lead up to this year’s meeting, and recently used their social channels to announce that their secrets will be revealed at AAOS 2017.

New exhibitors

There are 40 new exhibitors at AAOS this year. We’ve been through the list and highlighted our top 3 exciting companies to check out at the event.

  • Established in 2010, Paragon 28 is an exclusively foot and ankle company.

Most recently they launched the Baby Gorilla Mini Plate, designed to suit procedures that require narrower plates and smaller screws for small bones in the foot and ankle; offering 65 plating options from 13 plating families.

Paragon 28 announced their introduction into the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) market in late 2016, with the opening of Paragon 28 Medical Devices Trading Limited in Dublin, Ireland.

  • NeuroStructures is dedicated to providing spine surgeons with unique and innovative technologies that improve patient outcomes.

Winners of a 2017 Golden Mousetrap Award for the Belvedere Lateral Thoracolumbar Plate, which recognizes people, companies and technologies that drive innovation in North American product design and manufacturing, they will be based in booth #341.

  • Step-On International manages all distribution opportunities for a unique Step-On AFO family of products and will be attending AAOS for the first time this March.

Step-On International manages the international rights of Step-On, a family of dynamic AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthoses) designed and manufactured by the European Orthopaedic Centre in Greece.

The unique feature of these AFOs is that they are an ‘off-the-shelf’ product with an articulated design, offering adjustable dorsiflexion assistance.

Heading to AAOS alongside Orthoconnections as part of the search for suitable global distributors, you can find Step-On International in booth #710.

For those wanting further information on attendees, Bonezone have provided an abbreviated list of exhibitors, split by capability, to help attendees and exhibitors identify who to meet in San Diego.

Educational offerings

The event offers 200+ instructional courses, over 800 paper presentations, more than 500 posters and over 80 scientific exhibits.

The Academy have been using their social channels to provide information on education sessions and event timings in the lead up to the conference, to help attendees prepare for the meeting.

The technology theatre hosts presentations for attendees that focus on the latest technological advancements related to the orthopaedic industry and orthopaedic surgery.

The sessions cover a breadth of topics and issues; new advancements in the industry, from the expansion of robotic technologies and their role in the future of orthopaedics, to antibiotic coated implant technologies are discussed.

Returning after a successful debut last year in Florida, orthopaedic colleagues will again debate topics and techniques in exciting ‘Showdown’ segments. Involving leaders in two specialities, the popular ‘Showdowns’ end with the audience deciding on the winner.

Game changers

This year the game changers session happens on Friday March 17 and includes one hour of presentations on the future of orthopaedics, how it’s practiced, and insights into the newest and most cutting-edge procedures and technologies.

Networking opportunities

The AAOS annual meeting brings the world of orthopaedics together under one roof, and the benefits of attending are enormous.

Attendees will have the opportunity to network with some of the top medical device companies in the world while learning valuable information about the industry.

Networking is a great way to tap into advice and expertise that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to get hold of. Discussing common challenges and opportunities opens the door to valuable suggestions and guidance.

Networking isn’t just for attendees.

For exhibitors, it’s about finding people who can help you grow your business, at the benefit of you and your clients.

If you’re new to the industry or just new to us, drop in to booth 710 to find out how we can help you expand your network.

We have a wealth of knowledge of orthopaedics and spine; knowing key talent pools intimately – enabling us to act faster on your behalf, knowing where the right talent and opportunity for you exists.
